Seamless smoking. No cumbersome extra menus or items. Simply click a cigarette (or cigar or cigarillo) in your inventory (just like you would with any other chem) to light them up and smoke away.

New Vegas Script Extender is required to start your smoking addiction.

Light Up and Smoke Those Cigarettes is also available for Fallout 3.

OVERVIEW

Ever wished you could actually smoke the contents of those Cartons of Cigarettes or Packs of Cigarettes in the Mojave Wasteland? Now you can!

Cigarette cartons and packs are now located in the AID section of your Pip-BoyOpen them up (with a simple click) and see how many smokes are inside.

Smoking is now as easy as using any other AID item in your inventory. There are no cumbersome items or menus to fiddle with. To smoke, click a cigarette, cigarillo, or cigar to light it up and enjoy.

Cigars and cigarillos can be found at vendors or while scavenging. Alternatively, use a workbench to craft cigarettes, cigarillos, or cigars yourself with loose Tobacco.

There are also new custom sound effects for opening/unwrapping cartons/packs, sizzling, burning out, and a satisfying flick of the lighter, to make every step of the smoking process enjoyable.

DETAILS

Unpacking your cigarettes

Not all cartons or packs found are pristine. The number of cigarettes within packs, and the packs within cartons, is based on your Luck stat. The higher your luck, the more likely you'll find 2-3 cigarettes/packs in a pack/carton. With lower luck, you'll typically get 1-2 cigarettes/packs, but you still have a chance to find more on a lucky 'roll' (more details below).
When you open a carton or pack, an empty carton/pack (with a brand new model!) is added to your inventory (0 weight).

Your lucky cigarette

You also have a chance of finding an extra pack when you unpack a carton, or a "lucky cigarette" when you open a pack. This chance is also determined by your Luck points.

Smoking a lucky cigarette will give you +1 to Luck, in addition to regular cigarette effects. Save it for last!

Visible smoking

Starting to smoke a cigarette, cigar, or cigarillo, will automatically add and equip a visible lit version of that smoke on your character. You can only smoke one item at a time.

Smoking stats bonuses/effects

While smoking, Tobacco effects will appear in the STATS section of your Pip-Boy.

Cigarettes: CHR +1, AGL +1
Lucky Cigarettes: CHR +1, AGL +1, LCK +1
Cigars: CHR +1, AGL +1, INT +1
Cigarillos: CHR +1, AGL +1, STR +1

These effects will remain for 120 seconds.

Lit cigarettes/cigarillos/cigars will burn out at 120 seconds.

From the time you begin smoking, a Nicotine Effect will remain in your system for 360 seconds, giving you a brief window of time between the buffs ending and the time you will experience Nicotine Withdrawal effects (if you are addicted).

At any point after your smoking item burns out, you are free to light up any other smoking item.

When your smoke has burned out, a burn-out sound effect will play, and a message will appear to notify you that you are finished smoking. Also, an appropriate smoke butt is added to your inventory (0 weight).

Addiction

There is a chance of addiction when smoking. This addiction modifies the already existing "Coyote Tobacco Addiction" and changes it to "Nicotine Addiction".

To account for the abundance of smoking items you can obtain throughout the game, the penalties for Nicotine Addiction are more severe than in the Vanilla game.

Nicotine Addiction: AGL -1, CHR -1, END -1, PER -1

Curing this addiction is already covered by the vanilla addiction removal scripts. So, to alleviate your Nicotine Addiction, simply visit a doctor, use Fixer for a temporary fix, or perhaps just... light another one up.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Shorter Chem Wear-Off Effects is highly recommended if you're a chain smoker because of this mod.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Why do my cigarettes still show up in the miscellaneous section of my Pip-Boy? / I can't use cigarettes.

Typically, if you ever find cigarettes/packs/cartons in the Miscellaneous section of your inventory, it means another mod is overriding this one. Move the mod down to the bottom of your load order.

My cigarettes/cigars/cigarillos are not positioned correctly in my character's mouth.

The cigarette/cigar/cigarillo can appear misaligned on certain player models. There's unfortunately no way to account for all character models when concerning smoking item positioning as it is linked to a bone on the character model. Depending on how you modified your characters face, smokes can appear misaligned.

For cigars, due to their large size, they will pretty much never look 'right' when they're placed in your mouth. This is an unavoidable issue.

However, as for cigarettes and cigarillos, modifying their position is an easy fix that you can do yourself. View the instructions below:

1. Open the 'cigarette.nif' (or 'cigarillo.nif' if you want to modify the cigarillo) file in the 'Data/meshes/smoking_edisleado' folder with NifSkope.

2. Change the X translation number to move the model up and down. Make sure to save over the original file.

3. Close NifSkope.

4. Open up the game and confirm that the cigarette appears in the right position on your character model. Experiment to make it fit your character model.
