Overview

Welcome to Fabulous New Vegas is the last in a series of planned mods restoring cut content back to Fallout New Vegas. This mod restores the original in-engine introduction to the game, with different dialogue to the final FMV. The final game actually includes TWO different versions of this cut scene (in which different things happen), and this mod supports restoring both of them.

The original intro is a strange thing - a lot of care and attention was clearly lavished on it, and in particular it has a huge number of custom animations made just for it. It is still somewhat clumsy and buggy however, which is likely why it was scrapped for a video instead. In particular the sequence uses the blood spatter effect to simulate earth being poured over the player's head. This is hard to see in the vanilla game, and indeed one of the commands that controls this effect isn't even implemented in the finished game, immediately crashing the entire game when it is called. Needless to say, this effect is commented out in the script.

Originally the game would play a video file at the point where the Player is buried in the grave, hence why this sequence seems to go on for a long time. The video filename suggests it would show the game's logo. In fact it would likely be along the lines of the video used for the first E3 presentation (the one with Victor digging up the Player) - I speculate it in fact originally WAS this exact video.

Once the introduction has ended, the player will be teleported to Doc Mitchell's house as in the vanilla game. This mod is intended as more of a novelty than a serious choice, but the game should work perfectly fine if you do start a new game from it.

IMPORTANT

There are now two versions of this mod, the "original" release which is similar to the final game's FMV sequence, and a new "extended cut" version that has different dialogue to both, as well as a new scene where the characters argue about going home, and an extra line from Victor. YOU CANNOT INSTALL BOTH VERSIONS. It's either/or. You can have both in the game's directory, but you MUST make sure only one is ticked, otherwise Bad Things will happen.

It's highly recommended you use two other mods with this mod, to get around the annoying deluge of messages the vanilla game will bombard you with when you start a new game.

As such this mod is best enjoyed with the following mods:

Gribbleshnibit8's Delay DLC http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/42033

Yukichigai's Couriers Stash Pre-order pack selector http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/44171

If you're using Nevada Skies, make sure you untick its files and turn it back on after the intro is finished.

What's New

V1.1

- Fixed problem with Character Generation.

- Added sound effect when Jessup hits the player.

Installation

Simply extract all files from either archive to your FalloutNV/Data/ directory. click the "Data Files" option from the game's

loader and tick the box next to originaintro.esp OR originaintroExtended.esp

DO NOT ENABLE BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.

For best results, simply use the Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) package installer.

To view the new intro, simply start a new game from the title screen.

Known Issues/Bugs

- The antagonists don't look at the player while delivering some lines of dialogue. This is an issue with AI packages overriding look behaviour. I might try and find a way around this later.

- In the extended cut the player can be briefly seen leaping up again as it fades to black. I'll look for a way around this later.

Reporting Bugs

Please post bugs in the Welcome to Fabulous New Vegas topic on the Nexus forums.
