Update 2/28/2012: I noticed that the iron sights seem to be off (shoots high and to the right). This seems to be a glitch with how the client loads meshes for a significant number of non-automatic, non-scoped rifles. Because I don't know the first thing about modeling, I'm not going to fix this. Aside from making meshes that "mis-align" the sights to the proper aim point, this requires an official patch that will never be released, afaik.

Released v1.01 BETA for All DLC + CASE + WMX -spread users. Removes WMX support from This Machine, intended to be used with "This Machine mesh and iron sight fix" by San_nanasi.
http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=44870#

If you have a modded This Machine in your inventory, go into the console and type,
player.removeitem 00f062b 1
player.additem 00f062b 1
to give yourself a new This Machine without mods that won't crash your game when you mouse over it in the inventory.

Since This Machine has the lowest spread in reduced spread versions, I consider this an effective fix. Even with a long barrel attached, the spread is enough on normal Battle Rifles that you won't notice the offset, so no fix is needed for them. The iron sight fix does not affect any rifles besides This Machine, and cannot effect This Machine if any weapon mods are applied to it. If any experienced modelers feel like fixing the default meshes for GRA Battle Rifles (not WMX meshes without Antistar's permission), and want to release it with my mod, I'll seriously find a way to mail you some cookies, or something.

Anyway...

WARNING!

Only Serious Handloaders need apply! If you don't have a Repair skill of at least 50, getting .30-06 ammo is incredibly difficult. Also, a large amount of the crafting recipes added in this mod require you to find a schematic somewhere in the wasteland. Check the Spoiler section in the FAQ if you want to know immediately where it is.

You have been warned!

1.Lore Background
----------------------------------------

According to most sources, the Fallout world did not diverge significantly (if at all) from our own during World War II. With that in mind...

Sometime before 2281, the Gun Runners in California had acquired a schematic for a very old rifle, considered well past its prime even by Pre-War standards, although it packed a considerable punch. Its value to the Gun Runners was immense, as it allowed mass-production of a class of weapon they previously had little access to, a hard-hitting semi-automatic rifle with excellent long range performance. However, the schematic was designed for a round that was very rare in the Post-War Wasteland, so the Gun Runners altered the schematic to chamber .308, a very similar, but much more common round. By 2281, this rifle is seen being sold at nearly every Gun Runner kiosk as a Battle Rifle, its original name lost to history.

However, there are rumors that a copy of the original rifle and ammo schematics are in the hands of another gun (and explosives! BOOM!) loving faction in the Mojave. Also, a certain unscrupulous NCR quartermaster has been known to own (but not sell) an antique Pre-War Battle Rifle in pristine condition, still chambered in the original .30-06.

------------------------------------
2.General Description
------------------------------------

-Rechambers This Machine to .30-06 (automatic, cannot be changed back to .308 with disabling the mod).

-Adds a schematic to the Mojave that is required to craft some new, advanced .30-06 rounds, as well as to convert GRA and WMX Battle Rifles from .308 to .30-06

-Adds a recipe for a new .30-06 round, no schematic required.
Repair 50
Case, .30-06 and Large Primer
5 powder, rifle (44 with CASE)
17 lead (150)

-Adds a recipe for converting .308 cases to .30-06 cases, and back again, as well as mass conversionsx10 at a reloading bench. Repair 50

-Adds a recipe to rechamber GRA Battle Rifles to .30-06 at a workbench. (Schematic required. This recipe also repairs or breaks the rifle to 75% quality. Not intended, no change planned. Rechambering should be considered a near-permanent procedure.)
*Repair 50, 3 Scrap Metal (5000 Steel with CASE)

-Adds vaguely historical recipes for US Military .30-06 rounds. (schematic required, as well as the Handloader Perk in non-CASE versions).

* .30 Ball, M1
x0.85 CND, x0.90 Spread, -8 DT
Repair 70
Case and Primer
5 powder (46 with CASE)

-Reduces the Spread on Battle Rifles of both calibers, as well as This Machine.(Optional)
*Battle Rifles: 0.15 (2.5x less accurate than Brush Gun, close to Ranger Sequoia)
*This Machine: 0.04 (same as Marksman Carbine)

-Fixes Grunt to conform to the same standards found in jsawyer.esp, as well as a PATCH.esp for players who want Grunt to be like it is in jsawyer, but only have Honest Hearts DLC. (Optional)
*Removes Marksman Carbine and All-American from the list
*Adds This Machine and both Battle Rifles
*Adds Mercenary, as well as Lonesome Road unique Grenade Rifles

*Vanilla New Vegas
*Honest Hearts
*GRA + Any DLC Combo (no changes to Grunt)
*Merc Pack, DM, HH, LR, GRA (All DLC version)
(Only if you want Grunt to be changed like jsawyer)
*CASE + Craft Master versions (all supported DLC combos)
(Also works alongside Craft Pack)
*All versions have Normal and Reduced Spread ver.
*Also, I'm pretty sure this mod might need NVSE, because I haven't tested it without it.
*This mod does not (currently) edit any part of Old World Blues, or any pre-order packs other than the Merc Pack.

Also included is Mod Notes.txt, the notepad file I had open the entire time I was working on this mod. Take a look if you are curious about how this mod was made. I am not responsible for any temporary or permanent blindness from reading said text file, however. (Most of it is probably dated / even more difficult to read than this)

V1.0 (WMX Support)
--------------------------------------------------------
(download 3006modsWMX.rar for WMX support, otherwise use 3006mods.rar)

-Adds support for WMX weapon mods on both .30-06 rifles.

-Ensures proper repair list functionality between the WMX Battle Rifle and new .30-06 rifles.

-Battle Rifle, .30-06 has new stats that combine the best parts of GRA Battle Rifle stats with WMX's Battle Rifle, .308.
--Health - 500 (was 300)
--Damage - 48
--Spread - 0.55 (without Long Barrel)
--AP Cost - 25 (worse, due to +Dam)

-New Recipes!
--Rechamber WMX Battle Rifles to .30-06, and back again. (Requires schematic)
*Repair 50, 3 scrap (5000 steel with CASE)
--Craft WMX Battle Rifle Weapon Mods! (requires the .30-06 schematic as an economy preserving measure)
*Composite Stock: Repair 70, 3 toy cars (4000 plastic)
*Long Barrel: Repair 80, 2 scrap (3000 steel)
*Scope: Repair 90, 2 empty soda bottles (1500 glass) and 1 scrap (2000 steel)

Scope recipe should be compatible with nuka cola bottle replacers, tested with one version of one such mod.

GRA + Any DLC (no changes to Grunt)
---------------------------------------------------------------
-Recipe to convert GRA .308 Rifles to WMX .308 Rifles, but not back again. (Those schematics are with the Gun Runners in California)

All DLC (Grunt changes)
-------------------------------------------------------------
-WMX Battle Rifle also added to Grunt list.
-all above changes

-------------------------------------------------------------
*Sadly, my HH PATCH is not supported by WMX versions of my mod for the time being. I would have to make full .esp's for this change specifically for HH, which I may do in future versions (no promises, as always)

As always, Mod Notes - WMX Support.txt has been included.

4. Install / Uninstall Instructions
------------------------------------------

Install
-----------------------------------------------
-1: If you are updating from a previous install of .30-06 Battle Rifles, follow the uninstall procedures before updating. Failure to do so can result in the loss of valuable weapons and ammo components. Also, this isn't intended, but you more than likely will lose your schematic when updating to a new version. Just pick up a new one at the same spot. Sorry.

-2: Extract 3006mods.rar to a safe location, such as your desktop, and NOT directly into your Data folder. If you did, delete everything you just extracted and start over.

-3: Open the folder 3006mods

-4: Choose your version of DLC packs
*Vanilla - if you have no mods / only HH
*GRA - if you only have GRA, or any DLC combo if you don't want the changes to Grunt.
*All DLC - if you have all DLC, and you are using jsawyer.esp or want Grunt to be like it is in jsawyer.esp

-5: Choose a CASE-compliant or un-modded version

-6: Choose if you want Normal (Default) or Reduced (more accurate) Spread.

-7: Copy the .esp of your choice to your "...Fallout New VegasData" folder

-8: Load up your mod manager of choice, and adjust the load order like the example in the next section.
-------------------------------------------------

DO NOT use more than one .esp!!!
-The only exception to this is for people who only have Honest Hearts and no other DLC packs, who may also copy the HH Grunt PATCH.esp to their Data folder if they want This Machine to be affected by the Grunt Perk, as well as reduce the damage bonus of the perk to 20% (same as jsawyer).

HH Grunt PATCH.esp could also be used by itself... but why would you want to do that? ;)

Uninstall
----------------------------------------------------
-1: Load your saved game(s).
-2: Breakdown all .30-06 ammo
-3: Convert all .30-06 cases to .308
-4: Rechamber any .30-06 Battle Rifles to .308
-5: Save your game
-6: Delete any 30-06 Battle Rifles.esp's in your Data folder
----------------------------------------------------

Not following these instructions will destroy any .30-06 ammo and Battle Rifles (not This Machine) in your inventory.

-------------------------------
5.Example Load Order
-------------------------------
(* is optional)

FalloutNV.esm

*Any DLC .esm

*Craft Master.esm

*CASE.esm
-(Both CASE and Craft Master needed forCASE-compliant versions)

*jsawyer.esp
-Or other mods affecting Grunt in the same manner

*Any CASE, Craft Pack, or Craft Master.esp

30-06 Battle Rifles (Full version)
-DO NOT use more than one full version, match to your DLCs.

*30-06 Battle Rifles - Vanilla - HH Grunt PATCH
-Vanilla or Vanilla + CASE, any spread version

-This mod should load AFTER any other mods that affect This Machine or Battle Rifles (including improved sounds mods). One sound mod has been tested as working with no compatibility needed. Other mods that change things besides sounds more than likely will NOT have their changes applied. If unsupported mods are loaded after this one, most everything will be pretty broken.

7.(Hopefully Not) Frequently Asked Questions
---------------------------------------------

Q: Why can't I see one or more of the new recipes at a reloading bench or workbench?
A: All new ammo and case conversion recipes require you to have the minimum amount of cases necessary to be visible (1 .30-06 case for ammo recipes and conversion to .308, 10 for mass conversion to .308, and 1 or 10 .308 cases for conversion to .30-06), as well as the handloader perk/schematic where applicable. The schematic is also required for the recipe to rechamber a .308 Battle Rifle into a .30-06 Battle Rifle, as well as having a rifle to convert. Ammo breakdown recipes require having that ammo in your inventory (duh).

Q: Are you going to make a version compatible with X mod?
A: I may if demand is high enough AND I deem the mod worthy of loading for my games. No promises, but leave a comment. (Please don't PM me about this, unless you are the author of the mod in question)

Q: How compatible is this with other mods in general?
A: For the most part, pretty good. It is 99% not compatible with any other mods that change This Machine or GRA Battle Rifles. It is not designed to be compatible with any other ammo mods besides CASE, so use them at your own discretion. This mod doesn't affect loot/vendor/npc leveled lists in any way, so this mod is fully compatible with any mods that add .308 GRA Battle Rifles to leveled lists. Although very unlikely, this mod MAY conflict with other mods that edit the area where the schematic is located. If this concerns you, but don't know where the schematic is, scroll down to the spoilers.

If something I've said here isn't true, please post a comment and let me know!

Q: Are you going to make any versions compatible with different DLC combos?
A: Perhaps, if I get enough requests in the comments (no PMs about this, please).

Q: Can I distribute/edit your mod?
A: Please don't. PM me if you'd REALLY like to see this mod hosted somewhere else. Of course, anyone has my express written (typed?) consent to edit my files for PERSONAL USE ONLY. Do NOT host my files ANYWHERE on the internet, either edited or unedited. You may copy it to a thumb drive for your buddy, or whatever.

Q: Can I distribute/edit CASE or Craft Master?
A: Don't ask me, that requires Cyberlazy's permission.

Q: (Insert part of your mod) is not historically accurate / realistcally accurate / is not balanced in my opinion! Whinewhinewhine crycrycry!
A: That isn't a question, and I don't care.

Q: Why is X the way it is in your mod?
A: Ball, M1 has a DT reduction because, historically, the round was found to retain velocity at long ranges exceptionally well due to its boat-tailed bullet design, so much so that it was deemed unsafe for range use, and the M2 round was soon developed. (Speculation: The rounds were penetrating or ricocheting at dangerous velocities behind the dirt berm that target-markers crouched behind between shooting periods. Anyone have a better guess?)

Ball ammo is called such not because the bullet is ball shaped, nor because it has a boat-tailed bullet (Ball, M2 has a flat-based bullet). "Ball" is an old term that originally referred to types of cannon/musket rounds. "Ball" was a single solid bullet, "shot" was multiple small pellets, and "shell" was a hollow casing packed with something, usually explosives. (just to name a few)

AP, M2 ammo has a spread reduction and slightly increased weight because snipers in WWII and the Korean War were known to favor AP ammunition because its heavier weight made their shots slightly more accurate/resistant to wind factors. Ball, M1 has a slightly heaver bullet than Ball, M2 (which is considered the "standard FMJ" round in this mod) by 22 grains, and as such has a slightly reduced spread. AP, M2 has a larger spread reduction even though the weight difference between Ball, M2 is less (anywhere from 11 to 16 grains) to make AP, M2 more desirable as a "sniper's" bullet.

Ball, M2 has a damage bonus because it had a higher muzzle velocity than Ball, M1. Both types of Ball ammunition have a CND bonus because they are jacketed rounds. AP, M2 was jacketed as well, but this was not added to AP, M2 as a balance measure.

Ball, M1 is a better round against armored targets than Ball, M2, but is surpassed by Ball, M2 against (very) lightly armored targets. AP, M2 outclasses both Ball rounds, except against unarmored targets at medium / close range. Generic .30-06 ammo is of course the weakest of all options.

As for steel jacket to lead ratios, I mostly guessed here based on a picture of a cross-section of a jacketed bullet, as I couldn't find a better source in the 30min that I looked. Also, I know the US military didn't use steel to jacket their .30-06 ammo, but thats how Craft Pack does it for CASE ammo, and I wanted the recipes to be similar.

Powder amounts were also tough to quantify, as I found that the US Military did not have specifications for a certain amount of powder to use, instead changing the powder amounts with every bulk batch of powder purchased to ensure similar performance across varying powder batches.

As for the direct spread reduction to the rifles (not including ammo), I felt that a rifle considered "the greatest battle implement ever devised" by General Patton, as well as listed as having a maximum effective range of over 400yards, was seriously lacking in long-range potential in this game.

---------------BEGIN SPOILERS----------------------

Q: Where the heck is that schematic? I need a hint!
A: The Boomers have it.

Q: I've searched all over Nellis, seriously where the heck is it?
A: Check the Munitions and Mess Hall Hangar.

Q: *sigh* I still can't find it...
A: Fast travel to Nellis Hangars. Run to the alley between the two hangars. Enter the first door on the left. Go through the hallways to the BIG room. Keep running straight through the doorway until you hit the far wall. Look on the shelves in the stalls. I won't make this any easier for you...

Q: Hey, theres a floating wrench, broken grenade rifle, and toolbox near the schematic!
A: Apparently there was supposed to be a workbench there, but it is not present in FalloutNV.esm. There are mods that fix this, mine doesn't to prevent incompatibilities.

Q: Do I have to steal the schematics? The Boomers love me!
A: Yes. Although they are willing to help you blow up your enemies, they probably would have done that for you even if you didn't raise the bomber out of Lake Mead, just for fun. Being Idolized with them doesn't let you take anything else from the Munitions Hangar AFAIK, so that's that. Seriously, I'm not changing this. Just take the Karma hit and move on.

8.Known Issues
------------------------

-Rechambering / Removing GRA specs from a rifle will repair / break it to 75% regardless of repair skill, as well as destroy any attached weapon mods. Not intended, no change planned. Rechambering should be considered near-permanent.

-Updating from a previous version will cause you to lose your .30-06 schematic, if you had one. A new one will be at the same location. Not intended, may be fixed in a future version (if I switch to an .esm + patch format)
