Pyromaniac is a standard in the Fallout games, a long-standing perk that's been a favorite for years. I was happy to see that the perk was included in Fallout: New Vegas, especially with the greater accessibility that fire-based weapons have.

But it all went wrong.

The Pyromaniac perk in New Vegas is identical to how it was in Fallout 3: same effect, same weapon types covered... and the same skill requirements. Specifically, you need an Explosives skill of 60 to get the perk. The problem? THERE IS ONLY ONE EXPLOSIVES WEAPON THAT IS AFFECTED BY PYROMANIAC.

Yes, one weapon: Incendiary Grenades. Every other affected weapon (barring the Shishkebab) is in the Energy Weapons category.

The perk requirement makes no damn sense, although I will admit it took me a bit to realize that Explosives users don't really benefit from it. Still, this is wrong and needs to change.


This bugfix changes the skill requirement for the Pyromaniac perk. Instead of requiring an Explosives skill of 60, it now requires an Energy Weapons skill of 60.

P.S. It's almost a year later, but J.E. Sawyer has confirmed that Pyromaniac uses the wrong skill. Curiously, he mentions that Pyromaniac may have been meant to use EITHER Explosives or Energy Weapons, rather than just Energy Weapons. Interesting stuff. Perhaps another version of this bugfix is in order.
